Capabilities Center for Wireless Information Network Studies CWINS is an internationally renown compact wireless research laboratory with a successful history of research alliances with other groups in the industry and academia. Prominent features of CWINS include: Close ties with the world leading wireless industry of Finland, that includes Nokia Experience in technology and regulatory issues for commercial and military applications Experience in development of testbeds and tools for design and performance monitoring Experience as a corporate consultant in establishing wireless programs in several companies Experience in on-sight training programs in several companies Being a center for information exchange among different sectors of the wireless industry by publishing an international journal and organizing several international conferences

History of CWINS Center for Wireless Information Network Studies 1985Started as the first research program in the wireless field in the US 1986Was awarded the first NSF grant in wireless indoor networks 1989Founding member of the IEEE PIMRC at UK 1989Founding member of the IEEE ISSSTA at UK 1991Organized the first IEEE workshop in wireless LANs at WPI 1992Organized the third IEEE PIMRC in Boston 1994Started IJWIN, the first journal in wireless communications 1995Published the first graduate level textbook in wireless networks 1996Started the WLRL as an industrial research alliance 1996Organized the second IEEE workshop in wireless LANs at WPI 1997Started WILU project with Nokia and other Finnish agencies 1997Started design of Geolocation-Telecommunication networks with DARPA 1998Organized the ninth IEEE PIMRC in Boston 1999Received a Nokia fellowship to initiate an educational program with U. of Oulu, Finland
