PLANT NUTRIENT DEFICIENCY
2
DEFICIENCY SYMPTOMS Nitrogen- Stunted growth, pale yellow color, and burning of tips and leaf margins Phosphorus- Small root growth, spindly stalk, delayed maturity, and purple discoloring of leaves Potassium- Slow growth, scorched margins on leaves, and shriveled seed or fruit
3
SYMPTOMS CON’T. Calcium- Terminal Bud dies, blossom shed premature, and leave margins scalloped Magnesium- Yellowing of leaves between veins, thin curved up leaves, and tissue may dry and die Sulfur- Small spindly plants, light green color, and delay in maturity
4
SYMPTOMS CON’T Boron- Death of terminal growth, “Witch’s Broom Effect”, and thickened curled wilted chlorotic leaves Copper- Stunted growth, poor pigmentation, and death of leaf tip. Manganese- Interveinal chlorosis of young leaves and no distinction between veins and interveinal areas
5
SYMPTOMS CON’T Molybdenum- Stunting and lack of vigor and marginal scorching cupping of leaves Zinc- Decrease in stem length and reduced fruit bud formation Chlorine- Wilting, followed by chlorosis, and excess branching of lateral roots Iron- Leaves yellowish or whitish and affected leaves curl up
6
CAUSES OF SYMPTOMS Nutrient Availability- Sometimes nutrient may be tied up in the soil due to being in a form that the plant cannot use SOIL pH- Soil acidity or low pH reduces the amount of some nutrients available to the plant in the soil
