2 USGS Volcano Hazards Program Operates 5 volcano observatories (YVO is smallest) Working towards NVEWS (National Volcano Early Warning System), which is a program designed to “step-up” our monitoring infrastructure. Developing SWARM and VALVE software for seismic and multi-parameter datasets.

3 Yellowstone Volcano Observatory Partnership of USGS, YNP and U of U Focuses on volcanism, earthquakes, hydrothermal hazards (explosions) Seismic network, GPS network, InSAR, hydrologic monitoring Future: Thermal monitoring, PBO strain and tilt meters

4 YVO priorities Recently held meeting to develop monitoring plan Need to improve telemetry (redundancy) More broadbands to detect volcanic signals Trying to identify additional sources of funding
