Let’s start at the beginning… Environment Protection (Waste to Resources) Policy 2010* Schedule 4 — Prohibited landfill waste 1. For the purposes of clause 12 (Disposal of prohibited landfill waste), the waste identified below is prohibited landfill waste for the specified area: 15. On and after the second anniversary of the day fixed by the Governor for this policy to come into operation— fluorescent lighting and any other lighting that contains mercury (Metropolitan Adelaide) 16. Recommendations E-Waste If you campaign to collect – Get quotes on bins and containers If you are just pulling out small amounts – Consolidate on pallets and use local transport Fluorescent Lighting – Get quotes on stillages and use local transport 8

Product Stewardship Bill – passed by Parliament in June 2011 – Legislation framework manages environmental, health and safety impacts of disposal of products First scheme - National Television and Computer Product Stewardship Scheme – Co-regulatory Government sets outcomes (liability and targets) Industry funds and determines how outcomes will be met National Product Stewardship Legislation

Industry will establish Product Stewardship Organisation (PSO) to manage: – contracts – data collection & reporting Interim Industry Standard released in May 2011* – requirements for collectors, transporters and recyclers under scheme – transporters requirements: Training Risk & mitigation procedures Licenses Insurance * Australian Standard will be developed in 2012. National Product Stewardship Legislation
