Three “Nots” of I.I am not perfect II.I am not someone else III.I am not alone Self Confide nce
3
I am not perfect Imperfection is part of the human condition –Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God (cf. Romans 2:1ff) –I John 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves…
4
I am not perfect Imperfection reveals these truths: –I will never be absolutely perfect at anything –One failure does not necessarily make me a failure
5
I am not perfect Imperfection does not excuse sin –Romans 6:1-2 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid… –Romans 6:12 Let not sin therefore reign… –Romans 6:17-18 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin…
6
I am not someone else We must not compare ourselves to others –II Corinthians 10:12 For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.
7
I am not someone else We must only compare ourselves to Christ and those who follow Him –Matthew 4:19 And He saith unto them, Follow me…(11 of 12) –I Corinthians 4:16 …Be ye followers of me (Philippians 3:17) –I Corinthians 11:1 …even as I also am of Christ
8
I am not someone else God will only compare us to His word –II Corinthians 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad (Revelation 20:12)
9
I am not alone We must recognize our value to God –Matthew 10:31 Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows –Zechariah 2:8 …he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of His eye –Romans 5:6-8 …Christ died for us
10
Today, you are not: Perfect Someone else Alone Are you a Christian?
11
Consider During Lord’s Supper: Philippians 2:5-8 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
