Overview We propose to build a wireless controller that involves both a transmitter and receiver circuit using picaxe controllers. The device will be used as an educational lab system for high school student enrolled in the Invention Factory. The initial circuit design has been done by IF staff and we will do an analysis of the project, design a pc board for a classroom instructional module set and a pc board set for deployment with an RF controlled in an actual multi switch toy with an accessible RF controller.

Approach Research, understand and order circuit components (e.g. encoder/decoder, transmitter and receiver). Transmitter circuit Switches (buttons) Switches (buttons) Encoder Encoder Transmitter Transmitter Power supply Power supply Receiver circuit Receiver Receiver Decoder Decoder Microprocessor (picaxe) Microprocessor (picaxe) Relay switches Relay switches Power supply Power supply Test circuits on protoboard. Build final circuits on printed circuit boards. Design and build an interface module to connect with the other device. Work on user manual and project report.

Transmitter and Receiver chips

Encoder and Decoder chips

Possible Problems Defected or late ordered components Designing a module interface compatible with various devices Time constraints

Expectations Learn and understand microprocessors (e.g. the picaxe). Understand how the transmitter and receiver chips work and how they communicate with each other using radio frequency. Learn how to build an interface circuit module for a certain type of device Gain more confidence and knowledge on designing and building complex circuits.

Goals Provide the Invention Factory with 2 versions of the RF control system. RF educational system with pcboards and drawings of the classroom module, a technical training module for classroom use, and suggestions for classroom implementation RF educational system with pcboards and drawings of the classroom module, a technical training module for classroom use, and suggestions for classroom implementation RF deployable system with pcboards and drawing of the Toy Interface modules, a users manual for someone who would want to interface the RF module to a multi-switch toy.
