2 Negative Impacts of Aquatic Vegetation on Private Impoundments n Reduce recreational access n Clog irrigation systems n Increase evaporation rates n Increase eutrophication rates n Impacts water quality n Hinders feeding and harvesting n Increase insect breeding areas

3 Knowledge Challenge n County Extension Agents - trained in “Cows” and “Corn” (i.e. No Aquatic Background!) n Aquatic vegetation difficult to identify n Integrated pest management needed: –Prevention –Mechanical –Biological –Chemical

4 The Challenge! n Create a simple identification program of common aquatic plants. n Include photos and drawings with simple descriptions. (“KISS” – Keep it simple stupid!) n Give management recommendations that include all integrated approaches. n Establish links to applicable management options.
