MEASURING JOINT R.O.M.
2
Background Info: Range of Motion (R.O.M.): description of how much movement exists in a joint What may inhibit range of motion? Typical movement at joint? Measuring Unit --- degrees
3
Active vs. Passive Active: movement created by muscular contractions around the joint. Passive: movement and force created by external source pushing on body around joint. Which is greater?
4
Flexibility Training Dynamic/Ballistic: use of momentum of body segments to extend joint position beyond R.O.M. Static: slow stretch, maintained for several seconds. Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF): stretching procedures involving alternating contraction and relaxation of musculature. Debate between these three still exist.
5
Relative Reference Systems Fundamental Standing Position Anatomical Standing Position All Joints @ 0 except Ankle @ 90 Forearm varies
