Off-campus / Distance Education Courses D efinitions* Synchronous - Instructor and students meet at the same time, but a portion of the students are physically separated in location from the instructor. Technology utilized may include satellite, ITFS, T-1, T-3, fiber optics, radio, audio/phone conferencing, audiographics, IP Video, real time discussion (chat room), etc. Asynchronous – Instructor and students are separated in both time and place. Examples include prerecorded video or audio tape, CD-ROM based, web based, Internet, etc. (Sections reported do not include any sections that were taped.) Traditional – Instructor and students meet off-campus at the same time and in the same place. The instructor travels off-campus to the site. *Definitions provided by University of Nebraska Central Administration

These are sections of the Nebraska Medical Center clinical laboratory. Employees are paid by the Nebraska Medical Center solid funds. This area is part of the NPHL ONLY. Employees’ salaries are paid 100% by federal grant dollars. State Epidemiologist Specimens are accepted at the central receiving desk at RPA. Regional Pathology Associates (RPA) Located at UNMC From RPA, specimens are sent to the specific laboratory section required for the requested testing. These sections make up the Nebraska Medical Center clinical laboratory, but are also utilized by the NPHL. If the State epidemiologist feels it is warranted, specimens can be sent directly to the Special Pathogens & Biosecurity Lab section of the NPHL.
