1 Post SHOT II Experiment University of Minnesota Max Schadegg, Cole Christensen, Ian Macmillen, Steve Haviland June 10 th, 2010 University of Minnesota SHOT II

2 Important Lessons Learned June 10 th, 2010 University of Minnesota SHOT II -Don’t assume that hardware will work properly (or at all) -Bring back up hardware -Don’t set up your lab station in a carpeted motel room -Observe ESD precautions -Seriously though, ESD is not cool..

3 Results June 10 th, 2010 University of Minnesota SHOT II -Without a working flight computer, the best we could do was try and validate our 2.4 GHz radios and determine their range using an echoing transmission -Since it was raining, we decided to start out using our 12 dbi Yagi antenna, and were able to send data before we lost connection once the balloon got above the clouds (could be a combination of bad antenna connector and rain)

4 Future Plans June 10 th, 2010 University of Minnesota SHOT II -We plan to redo our SHOT II experiment using Minnesota’s ballooning team (after rigorous testing of course)

5 Special Thanks June 10 th, 2010 University of Minnesota SHOT II Thanks to Hawaii, Michigan Tech, and MIT, who offered us their hardware and supplies. Also, we would like to thank Chris, Jared, Kyle, and all of the Colorado Space Grant for providing such a rewarding experience.
