1 Dr. Tatiana’s Sex Advice to all Creation
Chapter 7: Crimes of Passion – Murder, Wife Beating, Rape Presented To You By: Jason Presents introduction Jason Furbush Tiffany Von Rector Jessica Croswell

2 Leave now if you are easily disturbed by graphic images of sex, violence, and nudity in animals.

3 Introduction Violence and Sex – Why?
Some animals tend to be overly aggressive during the act of mating. How? Why? Adaptations to violence? Many animals are extremely violent, either during the act of mating, or when trying to find a mate, willing or otherwise.

4 Examples of Violence Elephant Seals
Jessica – Males violent to each other; occasionally a female caught in the middle will be crushed under the weight of the males and not survive to mate. If a female were to be caught in the middle of males fighting over her, there’s a chance she would not survive the beating to even mate.

5 Examples of Violence Crabeater Seals
Tiffany – The brutal biting looks savage and is often bloody, but it is so common it seems to be the equivalent “a woman raking her nails down her lover’s back during sex. Not all violence is necessarily bad from the animal’s point of view. Savage Biting = Raking nails down the back during sex.

6 Examples of Violence After finally cornering the female after an exhaustive chase, the male proceeds to mount the female. Occasionally in his excitement, the ram will penetrate her anus by mistake… Kerguelen Islands Domestic sheep left alone for more than 30 years… Extremely brutal and savage when chasing a female to mate with… If the female is too exhausted to move after being raped, giant petrels will come down and disembowl her by pulling her innards out through her anus… Jason – The Kerguelen Island off the Arctic Circle is the home of domestic sheep abandoned by the French after failure to colonize the lands. Sheep have been left alone for over 30 years. After savage chasing, bashing, and mating, if the ewe is too tired to move or flee after the frenzy, giant Petrels (the bird pictured) may come down and disembowel the female through the anus.

7 Why are they Violent? Most of the time it’s unintentional
Males will grasp the female’s nose with his teeth for a better grip for the ride (intercourse). Explain that they may also die from infection Tiffany Often, the male will get too firm a grip, or slip, and scratch the female’s nose. “Experienced females’ noses are scarred with light pink splotches…”

8 Why are they Violent? 1 + 1 = Happy mating…
1 + Many = Suffocation and Drowning and no offspring. Jessica – Male frogs are in such a frenzy to mate, two or three may gang up on the female and drown or suffocate her.

9 Passing on Genes Primal instincts: Pass on genes.
Problem: If you can’t get the girl, you can’t pass on genes. Solution: Offer her an incentive (snacks AND virginity). Jason – Female sagebrush crickets prefer virgins, males that still have their useless (yet tasty) wings. Males have the teeth on their backs. As the female climbs on his back to inspect his wings, the trap closes and the male rapes her. The wings are for the female to nibble on and lap up the blood. Females generally don’t like “spoiled” males (i.e. already chewed wings) but once trapped in the “gintrap teeth” she has no choice. The male passes on his genes whether she wants to or not. Female climbs on back of male, checks wings for virginity, male’s tooth trap closes and rapes her (it’s ok, though… She nibbles the wings off and laps up the blood while she’s being raped).

10 Passing on Genes “No” means “Yes” for some species…
Male seaweed flies will only mate with females that put up a fight. The more “robust” females are better suited to survive (and their eggs) when the seaweed washes up on shore. Jessica – Female seaweed flies will beat up the males in an attempt to make the males beat her up. Those that stand up to each other are more likely to mate and produce fitter offspring, necessary for the offspring to survive when the seaweed ends up on the beach.

11 Prevention Of Promiscuity
Male cats want to ensure it is THEIR semen that impregnates the female… Barbed penis rips female vagina to ensure she won’t be mating again any time soon… Tiffany – Male cats prefer to be the only ones to pass on their genes, therefore the barbed penis shreds the inside of the female’s vagina, preventing her from further matings.

12 Adaptations to Violence
Hire a Bodyguard. Yellow Dung Flies Elephant Seals Jason Yellow dung fly males may gang up on a lone female, drowning her in poo. Flies with a mate are less likely to drown. Elephant seal females that are escorted to the beach by a male are less likely to be gang raped and killed. Water striders with escorts are less likely to be ripped apart by sex-hungry males. Water Striders Females that are seen to have a mate already are far less likely to be chased and raped by other horny males.

13 Adaptations to Violence
Evolutionary Adaptations Morphological changes as a countermeasure to violent mating tendencies. Tiffany – fem has thick skin and male has spiky teeth to hold thicker skin better. Skin is 2x thicker as the teeth are long. Immature males have flat teeth, and develop the gripping teeth as they mature to mating age. Male stingrays have evolved special pointed teeth to hold on to the female with during mating. Female stingrays have skin twice as thick as the male’s teeth.

14 Adaptations to Violence
Physical modifications through evolution Falcatus falcatus (320 mya) had a ‘modified’ fin, evolved for the female to bite on during sex. Jessica

15 Adaptations to Violence
Fighting the would-be rapist… Penis Fencing: The flatworm, Pseudoceros bifurcus, have evolved a technique of “hit-and-run” insemination. Tiffany

16 Why Countermeasures Don’t Happen
Deaths caused by rare occurrences such as: Skull crushings in Bison matings… Death from nose scratching infections in otters… Biting the head instead of the neck in dogminks… Jason – Slide is pretty self-explanatory Death from gang rapes… The genes that might counter these instances will not spread if these occurrences are very rare or if there are no genes to counter them at all.

17 Guide to Self Defense 1. Don’t Attract Attention
2. Don’t Leave Home Alone 3. Do Avoid Groups of Idle Males 4. Do Carry Weapons Tiffany
