4. Getting Started with Photostory When you double-click the Photostory icon on your desktop, the following screen is presented:

5. The first thing to do when beginning any project is to gather the materials that you will need. The first step in Photostory is to import into the project the images that you will be using. Photostory allows import of most common image formats, including.bmp,.dib,.eps,.gif,.jhif, ljpe,.jpeg,.jpg,.pcd,.pcx,.png,.psd,.rle,.tga, and.tif. You can import a maximum of 300 images per project. Once you click the Import Pictures button, you will be presented with a dialogue box where you can select the images you want to use. Navigate to the folder or such that has your images. 8. After you get your pictures Once you have imported all your pictures, you may wish to change their order or even delete some of them. To change the order of your pictures, simply left click the picture (in the film strip) and while holding down the mouse button drag the picture to the position you want it to appear in your story. Select a picture in the film strip and press the delete button on your keyboard to delete a picture. Filmstrip

9. Editing To edit a picture, highlight the picture by clicking it with the left mouse button and click the Edit button. You may rotate your picture, reduce red eye, or add an effect to the picture. Click Next arrow and repeat for each picture. Make sure that the Edit Picture window has been closed and click Next on the main window to continue.

10. To narrate your pictures, click the Record button. Step through your pictures as you narrate by clicking each picture on the film strip. When finished, click the Stop button located next to the Record button. Click the Customize Motion... button to customize the motion of each picture. A new window will appear. Use the available options to change to motion/duration and the transition for each picture. Narrate Text and Customize Motion

11. Motion & Sound To select another picture, click the Next Picture button. You may preview your work at any time by clicking the Preview button. When finished, click Save and Close the window. On the main Photo Story window, click Next to continue. Tip: You can preview your work by pressing the Preview button any time the option is available

12. Add Background Music Select a picture on the film strip to indicate where you want music to start playing. Simply left click a picture in the film strip once to select it. Photo Story allows you several options for music. To use music saved on your computer, click the select music option and locate the music on your computer. A second music option, allows you to create your own music using Photo Story. Click on Create Music... to use this option. A new window will appearA new window will appear.

13. Creating Music First select a genre, then a style, band type, and then mood. You may also change the tempo and the intensity of the music. Press the Play button to hear the music. When finished click OK. Tip: You may add multiple music clips to your Photo Story. Just click the picture on the film strip to indicate where you want the music to begin. Photo Story automatically adjust the music to end and begins the new music at the selected picture.

14. Save Your Story You have several options for saving your story. Decide what you want to do with your story and select the appropriate option. Tip: You can purchase a simple plug-in that will allow DVD conversion or you can save this file as a wmv and move into MOVIEMAKER! MOVIEMAKER!

MOVIEMAKER You will want to use Windows Movie Maker if you have video clips on your camcorder, digital camera or from another source (like PHOTOSTORY) and want to edit or combine clips into one movie and prepare them to be published or distributed on the web. Movie Maker (MM) should also be your choice of program, if you want to combine video and digital images into one project.

18. Capture Video From the Movie Tasks bar, under Capture Video, select the appropriate link to import video, photographs, audio or music

19. Placing Images on the Storyboard or Timeline The bottom of the screen in Moviemaker has two options: a storyboard view and then a timeline. Storyboard is what it sounds like- pictures along the bottom- timeline shows- you got it- time! Simply drag and drop your images or video to the empty box in the storyboard view ( or along the bottom in timeline). After you d rag and drop several images into the story board it looks something like this:

20. Editing Items can be adjusted or moved anywhere in the timeline or storyboard accordingly. After you have positioned these elements where you want them you can use MM’s edit functions to manipulate your project.

21. Adjusting the Timeline By default, any image placed on the storyboard lasts five seconds. If you want to adjust duration, then you need to adjust the timeline. To switch to the timeline view, find the “show timeline” button right above the storyboard. 1.Once in timeline view, click on an image, and then position your cursor on the edge of any two images, as shown on the right. 2.As the dialogue box indicates, you can “click and drag” the end of an image to lengthen or shorten your clip. 3.After adjusting the duration of your images, go ahead and press the play button on the window’s media player interface on the right side of the screen. Notice on the timeline that, as the movie plays, the blue cursor advances.

22. Incorporating Transitions To liven up our movies, we are going to incorporate some transition effects. Moviemaker makes it real easy to do some pretty sophisticated stuff. 1.I find it far easier to incorporate transitions from the storyboard interface, so go ahead and press the “show storyboard” button above the timeline. 2.Once you have changed the view, we want to open up the video transitions menu. Its really easy to find—just click the menu tab at the top of the page (highlight in the image to the right). 3.This is so easy: just “drag and drop” a transition into the small empty box in-between images on the storyboard.

23. Incorporating Video Effects and Audio To liven up our movies, we are going to incorporate some transition effects and audio. Moviemaker makes it real easy to do some pretty sophisticated stuff. 1.Video Effects are the same as transitions and work the same way- they are represented by a blue star. 2.Audio effects are found under tasks. 3.Once you find your file simply drag and drop it onto the timeline.

24. Finishing Find the Finish Movie section in the Movie Tasks Menu. Click Save to my computer ( or what have you) and follow the directions to save the clip. After the clip is saved, you will be able to import it into PowerPoint or other programs.
