Legacy Shelley's mainstream following did not develop until a generation after his passing. For decades after his death, Shelley was mainly only appreciated by the major Victorian poets, the socialists and the labour movement. He was admired by Mahatma Ghandi, Alfred Noble, C.S. Lewis, Karl Marx, Upton Sinclair, and William Butler Yeats. His life and works are still studied and his influence lives on in the 21 st Century.
