CLIMATE AND WEATHER

CLIMATES OF THE WORLD A climate is a long-term pattern of air temperatures and precipitation. Earth has 3 major climate zones on either side of the Equator. A climate is a long-term pattern of air temperatures and precipitation. Earth has 3 major climate zones on either side of the Equator.
3
CLIMATES OF THE WORLD Tropical- climates are always warm. They are near the Eauator, where the sun shines directly on Earth. Warm ocean water helps heat the air.

TROPICAL CLIMATE
7
CLIMATES OF THE WORLD Temperate- located between the tropical climates and the North and South Poles. The surface of Earth is curved away from the sun, so the sun does not shine directly on it. At different times of the year, Earth tips toward or away from the sun The amount of solar energy that reaches Earth in the temperate zone changes from season to season. Temperate climate zones have both hot and cold seasons.

TEMPERATE CLIMATE
12
CLIMATES OF THE WORLD Polar- these climate zones are cold all year round. Very little solar energy reaches Earth in the polar climate zone. The ocean water is cold all year round, which keeps the air cold.
13
Oceans and mountains affect the climate within each zone. Oceans and mountains affect the climate within each zone. In temperate climates, ocean water can keep nearby air from being very hot or very cold. Mountains near oceans can block ocean winds. The climate on the side of the mountains away from the ocean is usually hot and dry. In temperate climates, ocean water can keep nearby air from being very hot or very cold.
