3 50 percent of the word count  Web content should have no more than 50 percent of the word count of its paper equivalent  Kill the welcome mat and cut to the chase  Short intros written for the web can increase usability  Bulleted and numbered lists can be easily scanned (vs long paragraphs)  Lists also help eliminate words (phrases vs sentences)

4 ATTRACTIONS Nebraska is filled with internationally recognized attractions that draw large crowds of people every year, without fail. In 1996, some of the most popular places were Fort Robinson State Park (355,000 visitors), Scotts Bluff National Monument (132,166), Arbor Lodge State Historical Park & Museum (100,000), Carhenge (86,598), Stuhr Museum of the Prairie Pioneer (60,002), and Buffalo Bill Ranch State Historical Park (28,446). In other words—IT’S WORTH SEEING!!!!

7  Users expect underlined text to be a hyperlink  To make key words stand out, use bold text rather than underlining  Highlight (bold) key words, not entire sentences ◦ When scanning, the eye can only pick up 2-3 words at a time.
