2 RESEARCH 2010 and on Research funding is based on success in winning national competitive grants and on evidence of excellence in ERA rankings. To build concentrations of excellence and encourage collaboration, additional funding is provided to universities and other research institutions (national and international) to partner with each other. These partner arrangements are discussed as part of compacts.

5 RESEARCH TRAINING 2011? RTS and APA funds are allocated to institutions based on ERA quality rankings. The best doctoral students are matched with the best research groups based on ERA quality rankings. RTS places will be increased because of increased workforce demand for people with research higher degrees.
