4 Sponsored Programs Office Assist in applying for external sources of funding and coordinating application process. Assist in navigating proposal guidelines, budgeting, F & A costs, cost-sharing requirements and other administrative issues associated with external funding.

5 Getting Started Who is eligible to serve as PI? – Hint: Look at handout “Identifying PI and Co-PI” Is it a limited submission? – Handout: Limited Submission Program Guidelines Is it a pre-proposal? – Look at “Pre-Proposal Submission Policy” Work with contact at SPO – Look at staff charts for SPO and TED

7 What’s Next? Look at “Principal Investigator’s Checklist for Proposal Submission” If you are responding to an RFP, send guidelines to SPO ASAP Transmittal

10 What are you signing when you sign the transmittal? Sponsored Project Responsibilities Policy on Misconduct in Research Conflict of Interest Policy Conflict of Interest Procedures Conflict of Interest Disclosure Sheet (if needed) NIH PubMed Policy (if submitting to NIH)

11 Some Hints Budgeting – Read the proposal guidelines – Contact your SPO administrator early – Allow time for budget changes – Allow time for forms internal/external – Justify all costs

12 Hints (con’t) Allow time for completion of all internal/external forms Look at “Frequently Requested Proposal/Award Data” Allow time for SPO office to review complete proposal to be sure it adheres to sponsor guidelines

13 Proposal Submission Proposals must have an authorized signature and be submitted by SPO Deadlines – 48 hour deadline policy – Sponsor deadlines are final – Be safe and submit early

14 Electronic Submission – Contact SPO administrator early – SPO must review for completeness – Heavy traffic on deadline day may cause proposal submission delays – SPO must hit final submission button
