MORE PDR 27-28 Nov. 2008 MORE Status MORE: instrument PDR completed (27 Nov. 2008) EID-B close to completion Test and Calibration Plan: work in progress; issue 1 expected for next PM in June Ground station: some progress on the use of SRT (Sardinia Radio Telescope); no NASA support at the moment Concerns: wheel desaturation manouuvers every 12 h, with large delta-V (5 cm/s) Payload switch off near Mercury’s pericenter, X/Ka link off at pericenter

MORE PDR 27-28 Nov. 2008 Wheel Desaturation (communication from R. Schulte) x along track, y radial (nadir), z out of plane nominally zero, due to thruster orientation Calibration of possible to 5% Sequence Of Events: 0h 8h 10h 16h 22h 24h BOT EOT DSM1 max effect DSM2 BOT T0 T4 T3T2T1

MORE PDR 27-28 Nov. 2008 Summary of effects 0.05 ΔV y 0.05 ΔV z Δx [m]9+2=11- Δy [m]1- Δz [m]-3 Displacements after 6 h from manoeuvers, in meters, assuming knowledge of V to 5%

MORE PDR 27-28 Nov. 2008 Effects of residual V x Along-track, residual V does affect the SC orbit : Assuming calibration to 30%, the allowed, residual along-track V (constraining the displacement uncertainty to 10 m) is 0.5 mm/s To fix ideas, let us assume Δx = 10 m; then knowledge of ΔV x is required to:

MORE PDR 27-28 Nov. 2008 Requirements RSE-SPR to be updated with new requirements. 1)minimum interval between DSM is 12 h 2)knowledge of V must be at the minimum level of 0.15 mm/s along track (x), 0.8 mm/s radial (y) and 2.1 mm/s normal (z)
