Tough Times Consumers are facing are hard times Many people are struggling just to buy the basics for their families like gas and food As a result, consumers are on the hunt for the best deals possible

Coupon Craze Can get access to online coupons and discount codes Currentcodes.com Sellers are offering more coupons now, just to get people to buy Also using comparison services to find the best deal In a survey, 63% said they won’t make a purchase unless a deal is invovled

Hidden Discounts Many stores offer price matching policies and will even undercut competitors Not just discount stores that are resorting to these policies Not always expressly stated that retailers offer these discounts

Haggling and Imperfect Merchandise Haggling is now being used among mass retailers Can get products for a significantly cheaper price if they are “out of the box” Mostly used among electronics

What does this all mean? As the economy worsens, more and more consumers are likely to start using these techniques The effects are already being felt as many retailers have been reporting decreases in sales Doesn’t seem like its going to get better anytime soon
