Primary customer needs for this project: Automate the use of the existing UIT gun Perform UIT on a minimum 2 inch square flat surface Provide oxidation/debris removal during UIT operation Solution should be cost effective Automation to be more consistent, accurate and safer than when done by hand
5
Main Design Targets: Automate existing handheld UIT application Ability to treat minimum 2 inch square flat specimen area Ability to provide an impact force to the work surface that is adjustable from 0 – 15 lbs Adjustable feed rate in the X and Y directions Ability to treat specimens of different thicknesses Ability to treat various specimen shapes Total cost less than $1000 Combined weight less than 1500 lbs
6
Alternative Solutions: Possible automation solutions: Robotic Arm Modular Servo Racks
7
Design Solution: XY Table Pneumatically actuated UIT gun XY Table positions specimen Fully adjustable mounting capabilities Integrated with ESD coating process Gas shielding apparatus Adaptable for future optimization
