10 Office of EU Affairs-METU 5 December 2003 HOST-DRIVEN ACTIONS a) Research Training Network (RTN)  At least 3 institutions in 3 different countries form a network and jointly apply to the Commission  Commission selects the proposal and signs a contract with the hosts  Hosts, after selecting the fellows, offer scientific training within the frame of a collaborative research project for 3 months up to 3 years  Early-stage researchers and experienced researchers with up to 10 years of experience can benefit from RTN ** Deadline: 19 November 2003 (115 million Euro) ** Deadline: 19 November 2003 (115 million Euro) Conclusion: June 2004 – October 2004

Development Scheme: Knowledge of EU and candidate countries for developing their research potential 2. 24 Office of EU Affairs-METU 5 December 2003 INDIVIDUAL-DRIVEN ACTIONS  Promising experienced researchers from EU/Associated States can benefit from EIF, hosted by universities, research centers/enterprises within Europe  EIF offers to give researchers financial means for advanced training through research or to acquire complementary skills at a European organisation most suited to their professional needs.

30 Office of EU Affairs-METU 5 December 2003 EXCELLENCE a) Excellence Grants (EXT)  Aims to provide support to a team-leader with potential of excellence in a particular scientific field, for the creation and development of transnational research teams  Prospective team leader applies to Commission with the host institution  Commission selects proposals for funding  Commission signs a contract with the host

31 Office of EU Affairs-METU 5 December 2003 EXCELLENCE  Successful teams will be awarded a grant of up to 4 years based on a well-defined research program  Team leader selects the team members and they must sign an agreement with the host organisation (Deadline: 18 May 2004)

32 Office of EU Affairs-METU 5 December 2003 EXCELLENCE b) Excellence Awards (EXA)  Aims to give public recognition to the excellence of researchers, having benefited from training and mobility support of the Community for minimum one year  Candidates can propose themselves or may be proposed by others (Deadline: 18 May 2004)

33 Office of EU Affairs-METU 5 December 2003 EXCELLENCE c ) Excellence Chairs (EXC)  MC Chairs aim to support world-class researchers for encouraging them to restart/continue their studies in Europe  World-class researchers from all nationalities are eligible  The host institution should be in an EU/AS  The applicant applies to Commission jointly with the host institution  Commission selects the chair-holders and signs a contract with the host  Successful candidate signs a separate agreement with the host  (Deadline: 21 January 2004)

RETURN & REINTEGRATION MECHANISMS  European Reintegration Grants (ERG)  International Reintegration Grants (IRG) Above measures have been put into practice in order to make mobility more attractive by reducing negative impacts on a researcher’s career and making it easier for fellows to continue Their professional scientific career in their home country or elsewhere in Europe/Associated State after a training period abroad.

35 Office of EU Affairs-METU 5 December 2003 REINTEGRATION a) European Reintegration Grants (ERG)  Aims to encourage reintegration of researchers from EU or Associated States, who have previously benefited from a MC action for at least 2 years, into professional scientific careers  Researcher applies to Commission together with the host institution 6 months before the end of his/her initial fellowship  Commission selects the successful proposals and signs a contract with the reintegration host

36 Office of EU Affairs-METU 5 December 2003 REINTEGRATION  The grant (must be used within 1 year) goes towards the undertaking a reintegration project  The host must ensure the effective integration of the researcher for at least 2 years (Deadline: 15 January 2004…- 31 October 2004)

37 Office of EU Affairs-METU 5 December 2003 REINTEGRATION b) International Reintegration Grants (IRG)  Aims to encourage researchers from EU or Associated States who have been working outside Europe for at least 5 years to return to Europe to share their knowledge and expertise  Researcher applies to the Commission jointly with the host institution  Commission selects the proposal and signs a contract with the reintegration host

38 Office of EU Affairs-METU 5 December 2003 REINTEGRATION  The grant (must be used within 2 years) goes towards the undertaking a research project  The host institution must ensure the lasting reintegration of the researchers for at least 3 years (Deadline: 15 January 2004…-31 October 2004)
