Thought of the Day In your own words, what is history? In 5 complete sentences, describe the history of you.

What is history? A record of chronological events that take place in certain areas. How do we record what events take place? – With documents (an original or official paper that gives proof of or support to) – What are some documents that are important for history? – Epigraphs- a phrase, quote, or poem at the beginning of a document

Cause When you described your history, there were major events that took place in your life such as: – Birth – Kindergarten – Becoming a teenager – Scoring the winning goal (possibly) – Attending high school  Choose one of the items listed in your history, and write down what caused that event to happen. – Is it possible to have more than one cause? – Yes, that is called Multiple Causation

Effect The result of a cause Ex. Event: Scoring winning goal – Cause: Coach gave inspiration halftime speech to encourage motivation on the field. – Effect: Your team goes to the state championship.  Look back at your cause, and identify the effect.

Time The measureable period during which an action, process, or event take place. Why do you think time is important? - Does it matter that people recorded your birthday? - Time is often grouped by events that occur, years, or centuries. - Periodization- division (as in history) into periods

Continuity A sequence of events.  Write down the 5 steps you made in order to come to school this morning. – Remove the 3 rd step – If you remove a step, then it throws off the sequence of events and lacks continuity.

Perspective A point of view. The way in which people see things (or events). Not all people have the same experiences or see things the same way.  Imagine…  In history, people write down what they see. However, so do 5 more people. Do they all see things or experience the event the same way?

Your Point of View Directions: On a sheet of paper, write your name and date in the top right hand corner. Number your paper 1 through 5. The following slides will provide places, ideas, people, and events. You will respond to each slide by writing how it makes you feel, what you think of it, or previous experiences. Write in complete sentences.
