3 What Are Record Books Used For? Look at member accomplishments in: 1.Project Work 2. Leadership 3. Citizenship 4. Award project pins & Special Awards at Annual Awards Program

4 Why Keep Records? To record what you did…. Your project goals. Action you took on your goals. Did I meet my goals? (evaluate) Did I help other people? (Citizenship) Leadership assumed. Awards, trips, scholarships.

5 Getting Started… Complete Project Record Sheets Collect and organize 4-H pictures Get a Record Book cover Get subject dividers Pick a photo of yourself Outline your 4-H story To ensure fairness in judging, everyone must compile the book in the same format.

7 Section 1 County Standard Report Form Available from County Extension Office, or your Club Leader (also as a Word document). Answer all questions that apply. Let’s take a closer look….

11 4-H Citizenship/Community Service “Citizenship” is having a concern about something that affects your community, and doing something about it. “Community Service” is doing something, as an individual or as a group, to help your community (i.e., school, church, neighborhood, town, etc.). Definitions:

16 Section 2 4-H Story One side of paper only. No more than 3 pages long. Begin by introducing yourself. Double check spelling and grammar. Think of it as though you’re talking to someone about what you did in 4-H this year.

18 Section 3 General 4-H Pictures Pictures of you involved in 4-H: –Doing project work –Citizenship activity –In a leadership role –Receiving an award On one side of the page. No more than 3 pages of pictures. Attach securely. Briefly explain each picture with a caption. Me and my 4-H dog project

19 Section 4 (Name of Project) Records Use a divider for each Project Complete and insert record sheet for that project. Do not write a separate story, unless called for in project. Insert project photo’s directly after record sheet (label photo’s with brief caption).

20 Section 5 Correspondence, Special Activities, News Clippings It’s not necessary to have all of these, but you should have at least one. Letters from Agents, Leaders, other adults. Event programs. Newsletter/news paper clippings showing your name, highlighted in red. Certificates from 4-H, school, church, etc. DO NOT INCLUDE RIBBONS, MEDALS, ETC.

21 A 4-H Record Book Should Be: Neat Complete as possible Accurate Report only current year activities Report only most important activities Completed by Member Compiled in the required format.
