Rationale How: We will design our lessons using the following strategies: Optimized for personalization, based on individual histories and differences Standards based Utilizing both direct and inquiry-based instruction Focused on creative project-based student centered learning Integrating technology when applicable

Sample Lesson Students will learn how to read nutrition labels They will compare the nutrition facts of their favorites foods or common foods like McDonald’s french fries

Anchor Task Overview Students will synthesize their knowledge of food groups, nutrition labels, nutrients, healthy bodies, and exercise in a final poster presentation and in-class healthy food party. Nutrients: Research a nutrient and create a character Food Group: Cook a dish that features their nutrient Nutrition Labels: Present the nutrition facts of their dish Body Image: Create a T-Shirt and slogan that promotes healthy body image Physical Education: Design a stretching routine
