2 Impulse and Linear Momentum In this section we will integrate the equation of motion with respect to time and thereby obtain the principle of impulse and momentum. The resulting equation will be useful for solving problems involving force, velocity and time.

6 Lecture Example 1: A constant 10 N force acts on a 20 kg block initially at rest for 10 seconds. Determine the final velocity of the block.

7 Lecture Example 2: A cannon shoots a 100 g steel ball vertically into the air. It takes 5 sec for the ball to hit the ground. Find the linear impulse (Ns).
