2. What is it?… When the 13 Original Colonies came together to fight the British so they wouldn’t be under British rule any longer! - This is how we started to become the United States of America

3. The Original Thirteen Colonies… Delaware Pennsylvania New Jersey Georgia Connecticut Massachusetts Maryland South Carolina New Hampshire Virginia New York North Carolina Rhode Island,

4. When… America finally broke away from British rule in 1776 with the Declaration of Independence! This came about after 7 years of war. The final battle was on October 1781, and England finally recognized the United States as independent in 1783!

5. Why?… The people in the American Colonies were unhappy with all the taxes England applied. – Stamp Act 1765 – New Taxes 1764 –Townshed Act of 1767 –Tea Act 1773 –Intolerable Acts 1774 AND WANTED TO BREAK FREE FROM ENGLAND SO THEY COULD GOVERN THEMSELVES - WITHOUT HAVING A KING OR A QUEEN BUT AN ELECTED GOVERNMENT!!

6. What Happened After the Revolution? The newly established United States of America started to create a government! The Founding Fathers wrote the 1st Constitution of the United States as well as the Articles of Confederation. The Treaty of Paris in 1783 was also ratified and it ended any British claims to any of the thirteen united states.
