Overview Background Deliverables Restrictions Principles of Operation Development Approach System Block Diagram Marketing Q & A
3
Background Customers waiting in line Avoid wasting time – Avoid waiting in line – Profitable to businesses Less waiting time = more happy customers = more business = more money Consistent customer flow
4
Deliverables A robust sensor system Intelligent algorithms computing waiting time User friendly web site ECS Portal Advertising Cost effective system Technical Manual Feasible future implementation
5
Special Restriction The PQS system can only work in the presence of an Wireless Internet connection. The sensing area should be narrow enough so that only one patron will get counted at a time. Different settings require different setups; i.e. it’s not generic Any further restrictions will be considered upon evaluation results.
6
Principle of Operation Simple setup – One transmitter and two receivers The PQS project relies heavily on the accuracy of the sensors The controller board stores the current count for the number of customers at our clients location Determine Congestion Level
7
Principle of Operation Apache server hosting a multi-thread java server and Web services A real time updated graph – every 5 minutes interval Advance Algorithms will be used to calculate wait time Data transmitted via WIFI network
8
Development Approach Implement and install a PQS Implement Apache Server Develop a eye-catching Web site Implement advanced algorithms Advertise System to Public Measure Performance Refine Sensor Arrangement
9
Design Constraints Human Nature Strict Queue – Users entering through exits Lumped Queue – Requires Smart Controller Web Interface – Database management – Security
10
Input/ Output Number people in line sensed by the infrared sensors Reset counter by the users Number of people on the line and approximation of wait time showing on PQS Webpage. Acceptance test - The system will be installed fully functional at Marcus Café. Its performance will be tracked over time and compared data to observe congestion.

Determining Success Installed and Functioning PQS PQS data must correspond to observed data Patron Feedback Customer Feedback Reasonable Cost
17
Why PQS ???? Improve an existing system Testing Marketing Business Analysis
18
Marketing Marcus Café – Market Web site – ECS Portal Bursars Office – Daily Collegian – Posters Rao’s Coffee – Rao’s Web site – News paper publicity
19
Milestones 10/13 - Have a complete system up and running 10/20 - Install system in Marcus café. and Beta1 Website will be launched. 10/22 - Run tests and learn in & out of the whole system 11/02 - Convert existing Assembly code to C++ 11/03 - Use Java to update database 11/08 - Re-Design and HTML code of website 11/16 - Link database with website 12/01 - Additional feature will be incorporated with 2nd database. and Beta 2 Website will be ready to launch.
