This makes the Newark Earthworks twice as precise as the far more famous lunar observatory at Stonehenge. The discovery prompted Chris Scarre, a Cambridge University archaeologist, to name the Newark mounds among the 70 wonders of the ancient world, one of only three such sites in the United States.
