Main Research Questions Groups of people have widely varying tastes, interests, and goals. How can we accommodate, model, and predict these variations? How do people interact with small form-factor music devices? What are the nuances of working in this paradigm?

How does music fit in? Music is perfect to study because it is: –Highly personal & eclectic –Often shared –Reliant upon computing resources –FUN

The Scene: Small party in a dorm, apartment, or basement Everyone brings an iPod or PDA with mp3s Songs are streamed off of devices through central, hi-fi speakers People use small screen displays on their devices to choose what songs to hear next, or to request a song

What makes it different? Song ratings are determined by the community People gain “cred” by offering up cool songs LEGAL. Songs are streamed, not copied! Encourages participation and activity
