The World of Money! The Basics of Money: Coins and Bills

All About Coins!  Penny = One Cent = $0.01  Nickel = Five Cents= $0.05  Dime = Ten Cents = $0.10  Quarter = Twenty-five Cents =$0.25 Remember these names and values!

Lets Learn About Bills!  1 Dollar Bill = $1.00  5 Dollar Bill = $5.00  10 Dollar Bill = $10.00  20 Dollar Bill = $20.00  50 Dollar Bill = $50.00  100 Dollar Bill = $100.00

How Are They Related?  How many pennies are in one dollar?  100 pennies = 1 dollar  How many nickels are in one dollar?  50 nickels = 1 dollar  How many dimes are in one dollar?  10 dimes = 1 dollar

What Do I Need?  Lets say I want to make a Fruit Salad, at the store I need:  1 orange- $0.45  1 apple- $0.50  1 banana- $0.15  1 container of strawberries- $3.00  1 container of blueberries $2.50  1 peach $0.10  1 watermelon $5.00

Lets Do The Math!  If I have 1 Quarter, 1 Dime and 2 Nickels what can I buy? Mathematically I have… $0.25 + $0.10 + $0.05 + $0.05 = $0.45 So if I have $0.45 I can buy one orange!

Lets Do The Math!  If I have 2 one Dollar bills and 5 Dimes what can I buy?  Mathematically I have… 1 Dollar = $1.00 So, $1.00 +$1.00= $2.00 1 Dime = $0.10 So five would be.10 +.10 +.10 +.10 +.10 =.50 $2.00 +.50 = $2.50 With $2.50 I can buy one container of strawberries for my fruit salad!

The World Of Money! So from this lesson remember the values of pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters and dollar bills from 1 to 100! Practice on your own the rest of our grocery list!
