4
March 9, 2005IFIC, Universitat de Valencia Neutrino physics has entered into the new era of precision measurement
5
March 9, 2005IFIC, Universitat de Valencia MNS matrix and mass pattern Neutrino mass hierarchies Left: “normal” Right: “inverted” <= solar Atm. => =U i i There is the similar structure in quarks
6
March 9, 2005IFIC, Universitat de Valencia Suppose we have “standard model of flavor mixing” someday … Most likely, it unifies quarks and leptons We may want to test the theory by comparing mixing angles of quark and lepton sectors Then, we recognize that our knowledge of 12 in quark and lepton sectors are not balanced: (sin 2 C ) = 1.4% (sin 2 ) ~ 10 % Why don’t we try to measure 12 to a comparable accuracy?
7
March 9, 2005IFIC, Universitat de Valencia Quark-lepton complementarity? C + solar = 45.1 o +/- 2.4 o (1 ) atm < 53.2 o ( CL) 23 q < 2.5 o ( CL) 23 q + atm = 47.4 o +/- 8.3 o ( CL) => 2 C and 2 solar are complementary => QLC Thanks to all the solar & KamLAND experiments ==> <=Really maximal? HM-Smirnov, Raidal 04
8
March 9, 2005IFIC, Universitat de Valencia Symmetry for maximal 23 and small 13 ? Some people speculate that nearly maximal 23 and small 13 might be due to a symmetry: Z2, A4, etc. Deviation from maximal 23 and 13 is connected Grimus et al., Ma, Babu et al., Kubo et al. ……
9
March 9, 2005IFIC, Universitat de Valencia 23 is even worse: present accuracy of determination of mixing angles Maltoni-Schwetz-Tortola-Valle, NJP 04
10
March 9, 2005IFIC, Universitat de Valencia How to determine these mixing angles accurately? I will concentrate on “tomorrow’s item” based on reactor & accelerator Entirely new possibilities may exist with neutrino factory and/or beam (?) => interesting question to examine I have supplementary slides if you ask questions on how to measure 13

35
March 9, 2005IFIC, Universitat de Valencia Solar+KL and SADO are good competitors, but.. “SADO” has better sensitivity with long-run because tuning L is powerful 2% (1 ) in sin 2 12 reachable! Bahcall-Pena-Garay <= NOW05 Proc.

LBL disapp. measurement of 3, though accurate for sin 2 2 23, suffers from “J” and P-degeneracy issues
