2 Unemployment Factors  Competitive pressure eliminates many jobs.  For example: reduces hour and do more than one job.  Decline of military spending costs 3 to 4 million jobs.  Job decline is related to trade (Ford).

3 Continued………..  Ford automated assembly line put thousand of small custom-built manufactures and horse-drawn carriages out of business.  Low-skilled manual jobs are eliminated.  Professional license, Wal-Mart.  Bill Clinton: lowest unemployment rate.

5 Employment Factors  Ford automated assembly line created ten thousand new jobs.  Retails, hotels, restaurants, tourism, recreation.  Created more jobs with higher-wage.  Higher-paid workers enhanced their purchase power.

6 Continued….  Productivity reduces production costs and increases demand.  Replace unskilled jobs.  Providing consumers with a quality of life previously available only to wealthy people.
