The game plan I am planning to do this. In 2012 I give it my all. * Until 2022 at least This is a one-shot game, I will not plan to fail. I’ll be ready for a full-on attempt, and if we get the weather then that day will be the BG. Or not. Game on. * We now have a team of three runners – Alan Hall, Andrew Henderson (welcome) and myself. Now we need to get support runners ready. We might need three teams on the day.

Questions for supporters Support Runners Do you fulfil the qualification criteria ? – page 3 Which stage are you up for? – page 6 Which dates are you able to hold for us? – Title Page Crew Are you excited? Are you organised? Which dates can you hold for us? – Title Page I will be massively grateful to all supporters who commit to this venture. At some point I’ll probably stop thanking you, and buying you beer and cow pie

Qualification criteria To be on the team you must have done at least one of the BG stages roughly on 23 hour schedule. Ok, this is simple. It’s not about how fast a runner you are, it’s about how much of a mountain person you are and how well you know the Lakes terrain. I’ve learnt it’s damned tough ground, mentally as well as physically. Could you run down Hall’s Fell Ridge, pictured above? If yes, I would love you on our team! See two pages on for further trips if you need a chance to do a stage Runners Support crew To be on the support crew you need to be: A load of fun Thoroughly organised and reliable Able to argue with me when I need it

StagePencilled in support Our statusPossible issues 1 – Keswick to Threlkeld Paul N? Rob? Jany? Need people Recced the lotPotentially trick descent of Hall’s Fell ridge in the dark Navigation not straightforward after summit of Skiddaw 2 – Threlkeld to Dunmail Raise I’ve done at pace in very high wind. Want to do in dark. Relatively straightforward, at least in navigation terms. Required speed up and down steep Fairfield path could be a problem. 3 – Dunmail Raise to Wasdale Head Wes Nicola? I’ve recced the lot. It’s hard as nails. Perhaps Wes should see it Broad Stand Navigation tough in anything but good visibility 4 – Wasdale Head to Honister Pass Paul B Mike All of us recced the first half, I’ve recced up to Great Gable Hard, hard work. But navigation relatively easy at least 5 – Honister Pass to the finish Adams? Those from stage 1 or 2? I’ve recced the lot – supporters to see We’ll be bloody nackered. Night navigation possible Vehicles and supplies Alex Lula Sam Kemi Gemma Lars and Lisa P? Poppy Catherine Alex will be comms and tracking management All these people have two responsibilities: reliability and fun. Serious Stuff I want as many of you as possible to be involved in this if you want to be BUT: The mountains are risky places. Mist is thoroughly disorientating and they can turn very cold and windy unexpectedly. No-one on this venture should put themselves at unnecessary risk, if you are not comfortable doing something I want you not to do it and to still be there for a pint that evening. So there are three rules: 1.To be a support runner you must have previous mountain experience and fulfil the qualification criteria. You must know you can be safe even when on your own in the mountains. 2.I want everyone to be in the pub in the evening. Safety is more important than success if the crunch really comes. 3.Reliability is crucial; we will need everyone. Pulling out will not be an option (unless you’ve broken your leg)
