What is Text Messaging? “Short message service (SMS) is a service available on most digital mobile phones that permits the sending of short messages between mobile phones, other handheld devices and even landline telephones” - Wikipedia

How does Text Messaging Work? From a Mobile phone capable of Text Messaging: the sender types a message, up to 160 characters, on the keypad, enters a phone number of recipient then sends the message. Messages are sent to a Short Messaging Service Center (SMSC) which provides a store-and-forward mechanism.

How does Text Messaging work? The message is then sent from the messenger to the recipient, if the recipient is unable to receive the message the sender is notified or the Text Message will not go through. If a recipient is not reachable, the SMSC stores the message for later retry.

History 1 st message was sent in the UK on December 3, 1992. It read “Merry Christmas”. In 1995, an average of.4 texts were sent per cell phone user per month. By the end of 2000, an average text message user sent 35 per day.
