Classroom Management Good management is essential for effective use of technology in the classroom. In general, remember the three P’s of preparation: Prepare your students Prepare your students Prepare yourself Prepare yourself Prepare the learning environment (including the technology itself) Prepare the learning environment (including the technology itself)

Prepare Your Students Do preparatory work in the classroom before going to use computers Set aside time for learning basic computer skills in advance of application lessons Prepare directions for common tasks Have students turn off computer displays to listen to directions Appoint technology helpers from among the students Others?

Prepare Yourself Always run through technology lessons before presenting them to students Create a back-up plan in the event of technology problems Schedule labs or equipment in advance as needed Line up helpers when possible Build some unscheduled time into technology- based lessons in case extra time is needed

Prepare the Environment Position classroom equipment as needed for planned activities Check to make sure equipment is operating correctly Post important technology use rules Create visual cues for students (e.g., colored cups or tags for help) Have software available for students if it is not network based If using a network, create folders for storing student work
