In Poland, the schools only had one room and were very simple. There where no malls. Instead, there were very small owned stores. In Poland, there were cars, but most people didn't have them. My Grandpa took the bus. Third, this is what was going on in the world when they left their home. There was a war that just ended. It was World War II. There were a lot of people leaving Europe to go to other countries. Jewish people especially were leaving. Jewish people had been killed just because they were Jewish! Lastly, this is what it was like in the United States when he arrived. There was not a war in the United States when they arrived. There were a lot of Jews, but they were still a minority. Here are some political scientist facts about my Grandpa. First, I`m going to tell you about the political reason my Grandpa came here. He came after the war ended. He could not escape unfortunately. He came here because his whole family in Poland had been killed, and he wanted to leave all the bad memories behind. Also, he came to the United States because he had family here. My Grandpa did like the idea of coming here because his uncle told him that Jews were treated fairly here, and he could have a better life here.
