This type of system is where an official ballot or candidates name is placed on a certain lever which is arranged in a rectangular levers in the front of the machine. 4. *Punch cards came out in California in 1964. This system was also used in the 1996 presidential election. This system is where the voter as a small sized official ballot where the voter punches a hole in the proper spot for their candidate. Once that has occurred the voter can then place the ballot in a box to be electronically counted later or they can place their card through the computerized machine at that moment to be recorded. 5. *Mark sense Optical scanning is also used during the 1996 presidential election. This system of voting is where there is a preprinted official ballot with an open oval or rectangular shape that is blank. Then the voter fills in this shape to the candidate of their choice and then the marked ballot is feed through a computer tabulating device and is counted.
