How to succeed – 2 basic parts 1.Persistence and hard work 2.Setting challenging, yet achievable goals –Both short and long terms –Possible to live without, but you accomplish much more with them

Goal setting exercise On a sheet of paper: 2 minutes – list 3 major lifetime goals 2 minutes – list 3 goals for the next year 2 minutes – list things you have done in the past week that relate to these lists

Goal setting process Should not be a hassle Goals should be specific and measurable Goal integrity –High: sincere; failure not planned on and is quickly corrected –Low: superficial; failure is expected and signals the end of the goal

Goals should have a timetable Goals should be written down Share them with others Should be achievable, but require effort Review and revise regularly –But, don’t obsess on them

Excel techniques Plotting and Excel’s terminology: –“Chart” (use XY scatter, not line!!) –“Category” is the independent variable, horizontal axis, abscissa –“Value” is the dependent variable, vertical axis, ordinate Live demo in a few minutes

Separate worksheet for each problem Keep graphs on same sheet with data Save as smith_4.xls E-mail to me as an attachment Turn in hard copy next week
