Process Description We are going to use Extreme Programming (XP) during the development of our system. We chose XP because we have multiple users with design requirements that are subject to change as the project progresses, and XP is responsive to changes in requirements. We will also have complex code, and the pair programming and reviews required by XP will help to ensure that we catch errors and bugs early in the process. Finally, the frequent releases developed in the XP process will help us to build our complex system in small pieces and incorporate new ideas into the system after development has begun.

Article Citation (1) Helen M. Grady, Web site design: a case study in usability testing using paper prototypes, Proceedings of IEEE professional communication society international professional communication conference and Proceedings of the 18th annual ACM international conference on Computer documentation: technology & teamwork, September 24-27, 2000, Cambridge, Massachusetts

Article Description (1) This paper offers a case study on the process of using paper prototypes. The study demonstrates that the use of paper prototypes is a cost-effective means to identify website design flaws or to improve website layout early in the overall development process. Faculty and student participants were tasked with finding specific information within the site by physically pointing to paper representations or vocalizing where they believed the information would be located, and a research assistant would record the results. By using the paper prototypes, the developers were able to identify several key areas of improvement, and therefore, they were able to address these items early and save resources that would have otherwise been expended on the flawed design.

Article Citation (2) Montero, S., Díaz, P. and Aedo I. (2007). From requirements to implementations: a model-driven approach for web development. European Journal of Information Systems. 16 (4), 407--419.

Article Description (2) This paper discusses Model-Driven Architecture, which is a process that helps to reduce effort during web development through reuse and automatic code generation. The paper talks about advanced methods in web page development and how developers can build web systems that reduce error and help to maintain the system in the long run. The process described includes developing models that move from platform- independent designs to more specific designs until an optimal web system is developed. Our group will be able to utilize many of the concepts from this paper in order to build a complex system in a short period of design in such a way that will reduce maintenance effort and help our design to the customer’s needs.
