2 The Solar System Solar system is composed of the sun, the planets, and other bodies that travel around the sun.

3 Formation of the Solar System
Formed from a cloud of gas, ice and dust called a nebula about 4.6 billion years ago. Star nearby might have exploded causing the nebula to flatten and spin faster.

4 Formation of the Solar System (Continued)
Temperature in the center of nebula is increasing, and this is the beginning of the sun. Remaining gas and dust particles collided and stuck together to make the planets.

5 Formation of the Solar System (Continued)
Two types of planets where formed. Inner planets: small, rocky planets with iron cores Outer planets: large gas planets
