Spectrometer Solenoid Procurement UpdatePage 11 S. Virostek, M. Green (LBNL) --- W. Lau, S. Yang (Oxford) Conductor Electrical Characteristics Specified conductor critical current: >760 @ 4.2 K and 5 T Specified conductor n value: >35 Specified conductor copper to S/C ratio: 3.9 ± 0.4 RRR values for the conductor copper are acceptable

15
Spectrometer Solenoid Procurement UpdatePage 15 S. Virostek, M. Green (LBNL) --- W. Lau, S. Yang (Oxford) LBNL Inspection of the Superconductor 3 crates received containing six conductor spools All spools of conductor were visually inspected and found to be in good condition w/no shifting A sample was cut from one of the smaller rolls (a small roll is more likely to have defects) The surface of the insulation from a 1 meter long section was visually inspected. The twist pitch was observed to be ~19 mm The conductor copper was removed using nitric acid to allow the Nb-Ti filaments to be inspected
16
Spectrometer Solenoid Procurement UpdatePage 16 S. Virostek, M. Green (LBNL) --- W. Lau, S. Yang (Oxford) Exposed Conductor Filaments The conductor twist pitch is within the specified range of values ~2.5 mm
17
Spectrometer Solenoid Procurement UpdatePage 17 S. Virostek, M. Green (LBNL) --- W. Lau, S. Yang (Oxford) A Closer Look at the Filaments No filament sausaging observed, suggesting a high n value Filament surfaces appear to be acceptable j c likely to be uniform across the conductor section
