2 Initiate communications with patients rather than wait to be asked uestions. To resolve conflicts with others in a direct manner but in a way that conveyes respect for others.

5 Why nonassertive Cognitive theories: passive or aggressive responses because of negative beliefs such as:Cognitive theories: passive or aggressive responses because of negative beliefs such as: 1.Fear of rejection or anger from others and need for approval (everyone should like me and approve of what I do). 2.Over concern for the needs and rights of others (I should always try to help others and be nice to them). 3.Belief that problems with assertiveness are due to unalterable (this is just how I am). 4.Negative self-evaluation combined with perfectionist standards (I must be perfectly competent. if I am a failure).

6 Passive response 1.Wait for other to initiate communication. 2.Avoid conflict and do not say what they need,feel, think or desire out of fear that others may not agree. 3.They may feel secretly angry. 4.They may see themselves as victims. 5.This may lower their self-esteem.

7 Aggressive response 1.Seek to win-loss in conflict. 2.Say what he think and want, but act hostile to the feelings, thoughts and needs of others. 3.He may win in the short term,but loss in long term.

8 Assertiveness techniques 1.Providing feedback. 2.Inviting feedback. 3.Setting limits: (taking` responsibility on how to spend personal resources, you can say no). 4.Making requests :asking and clearly communicate your needs and expectation. 5.Being persistant (calmly repeating your decision). 6.Ignoring provocations and focus on solving problems. 7.Responding to criticism: we do not have to be loved or approved by everybody, we may make mistakes.
