3 Stress affects us all! Don’t think of stress as simply emotional stuff such as: –Anxiety or Depression or Work Stress or Loss of a Loved One or Relationship Breakup Also includes: –Lack of Sleep (Insomnia) –Physiologic Stress: hormonal, blood sugar, chronic pain, etc. –Poor Planning – tasks, drive times, meals, etc.

4 The impact of Stress: –Decreased Cognitive Function (memory, task completion, etc.) –Decreased Energy (Fatigue or Exhaustion) –Unstable Moods –Poor quality sleep –Hormonal imbalance: Adrenals, Thyroid, Sex hormones (Est/Prog, Testosterone) –Elevated Blood Pressure

5 It Takes Time to Heal Increase your tolerance to stress – prayer, meditation Work on improving sleep quality and duration Eat regular meals that are properly balanced (PRO/CHO/FAT) with good portion control – DON’T PIG OUT! Get regular exercise Avoid stimulants (Caffeine) and Sugar Take warm baths to relax (add ½ to 1 cup of Epsom salts to the bath for an excellent relaxation effect) Listen to soothing praise music Read your Bible

6 Decide that you will be happy/joyful – Yes you have free will and are not a victim! Work on developing a positive attitude You have victory in Christ! Be Proactive. Get on top of the circumstances. Do not let life dictate to you your feelings! Plan your day. Schedule. Use a day-timer or PDA if needed Therapy

7 Consider using anti-stress nutrients such as: CoEnzyme B Complex vitamins – Esp: B6, Inositol, B12 Botanicals such as: – Passion Flower, Valerian Root, Chamomile, Lemon Balm – St. John’s Wort – Adaptogens – Ginseng (Korean, Russian, Indian), Ashwagandha Amino Acids such as: GABA, L-Theanine, 5HTP (if anxious) N Acetyl L-Tyrosine, SAMe (if depressed)

8 Seek support and guidance: –Christian Counseling –Prayer group –Natural and/or allopathic care Have labs run to rule out: –Amino acid deficiencies (Neurotransmitter precursors) –Adrenal hormone imbalance (cortisol, DHEA) –Thyroid hormone imbalance (TSH, Free T3, Free T4) –Blood Sugar level (high or low) You can overcome and conquer this condition!
