4 Field Observations Based on quantitative field observation method in (Baker et al, 2004; Rodrigo et al, 2007) Students used the software in groups of 10, one computer per student Two coders observed each student for 20 seconds, moved on to the next student, circled back to the first student Observers were synchronized by a common timekeeper

5 Field Observations Observers coded only one behavior and affective state per time slice Only the first behavior and affective state were coded Observers stood diagonally behind the subjects Observers stood still or moved, depending on the better vantage point
