2 ACT 6-51-601 Passed in 1989 Board was established in September 1989 Board is appointed by the Governor The State director is chosen by the board

3 Responsibilities of the Board Provide consumer protection for students that enroll in private post-secondary career schools. Board is responsible for oversight specifically for training that leads to or enhances occupational qualification. Transcripts and records of schools that have closed are also maintained by the board.

4 Students must receive Course outline Schedule of tuition, fees, and other charges Policies Rules of operation Complaint procedure

5 Students are not to be guaranteed ------ Pay or employment after completion of the program.

6 5 types of license Career Seminar License Real Estate Continuing Education License Satellite School License School License Traveling School License

7 Career Seminar License Offers training to increases job performance Cannot last more than 8 hours Cannot cost more than $500.00

8 Real Estate Continuing Education License One day programs Meet 6 hour continuing education criteria

9 Satellite School License Schools that offer courses on more that one campus Must offer on continual basis at satellite campus

10 Traveling School License 80 hour course or less Training cannot be offered in 2 locations at same time

11 School License Training must lead to or enhance occupational qualifications

12 Camp Real Estate School Located in Mountain Home, AR Classroom or CD classes 60 hour program $495.00 92% pass rate on state board of graduates

13 St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital Many of the vocational schools in Arkansas grew out of a need for trained employees. St Joseph’s Mercy Hospital in Hot Springs had a need for Certified Nursing Assistants and could not find enough that wanted to work. They formed a vocational program to train these CNA’s.
