4 TALKING ABOUT THE WEATHER
A useful way of beginning a conversation with strangers is to discuss the weather. Foreigners are often amused that the British spend so much time talking about the weather. When the British meet they always make some comments about the weather to be sociable. They don’t only talk about today’s weather, but also the weather of yesterday and tomorrow. When you come into a building you can tell the people inside what the weather is like outside by saying: “It’s warm (horrible, nice, etc.) out. Remember that talking about the weather can be a useful way of starting a conversation with a stranger at a bus-stop or in a train.

CHOOSE THE BEST SEASON FOR THE VISIT: DISCRIBE THE VISIT AND THE THINGS YOU CAN DO IN THAT SEASON USE I’d like to invite you to my home town It’s in the northern (southern, central) part of Russia The weather is usually (cold) in (autumn) Sometimes it is rainy (frosty, humid, etc…) In my opinion the best season is … . I like it greatly We can go skiing (skating, swimming, boating, fishing, pick wild flowers, gather berries and mushrooms, go to the beach, have a lot of fun, go to a skating-rink) That is why I’d like you to come to my town in (summer)
