How will changing any part of a building design affect the construction schedule?
3
The Old Design Methodology The old methodology is a drafting ones. The design drawings_2 D or 3D_, the contract documentation and the working and field design are separated. 2 D drawings are symbolic with a simple object definition which led to misunderstanding in construction field which cost money.. 3 D is almost done after the design has been finished and it is for demo only so the designer need to imagine all the time that led to mistakes which raise the cost.
4
The Old Design Methodology The area and mass calculations are necessary bore ones. When any change is made they must be recalculate whatever its time waste. If the design changes it’s the designer responsibility to make the coordination between 2 D and 3 D and all design documentation that takes effort and time and of course” time is money “. The most designer efforts goes to drafting and tedious calculation instead of focusing on design.
5
What is Integrated Building Model (IB Model)? The advantages of IB Model. Today pioneers. The New Design Methodology
6
What is Integrated Building Model “IB Model”? IB Model or Integrated Building Model is an intelligent digital model which combines data and geometry and helps to automat drawing coordination and building information management which can give us more time to do what we like to do and what we hopefully do best — design. Sometimes it called “virtual building model," a "single building model," or a "building information model."
7
The advantages of IB Model With IB models, the 2D and 3D representations come from the same dataset, so the adjustments can be automatic when changes is made. By "slicing" a IB models, we can generate 2D "reports" such as floor plans, elevations, sections
8
The advantages of IB Model With the IB models, contract documentation can be smoothly coordinated, evolving representation of the building's design, a byproduct of the design process. An IB models may be built by assembling the building object by object, system by system, in a digital environment. This not only allows the designers to visualize 3D representations at any point during design, it can also enable the design and construction teams to extract, almost instantly, much richer information than they could get from 2D drawings.
9
The advantages of IB Model This technology is also useful for less experimental constructions. Using it as a design tool can push the design team to solve systems-integration problems during design, long before the project goes into construction. The potential for cost savings by reducing "errors and omissions" is huge. A conceptual design detail study to communicate how architectural components relate to each other.
10
The advantages of IB Model When using integrated 2D/3D design tools, architects can focus on design and the integration of building systems instead of on drafting. 11
The advantages of IB Model Good building modeling tools allow the designer to derive and update area calculation results effortlessly whenever they modify the building design. Similarly, cost information can be quickly calculated by attaching to any object the cost per length, per area, per volume, or per item. The software can count or measure the objects and insert them in a schedule, providing fast access to cost information whenever a change is made. help designers focus more on design study A color-fill diagram depicts function by programmatic area, with real-time, automatically generated area tabulations The conceptual design and space planning study for a spa, used to explain the layout and to calculate components and costs from an integrated building model.
12
The advantages of IB Model design agents which developed to perform structural, mechanical, and code analysis calculations and give the designer real-time feedback on the implications of design changes. Integrated into the comprehensive building model, such agents can be powerful design accessories
13
Today pioneers. The major obstacle to adoption of the IB model in the construction industry: Delivering an IB model instead of 2D drawings to a contractor, local building official, or client will require a major change in process and a shift in responsibility and liability.
14
Today pioneers. Today pioneers : ”BAA, The Movement for Innovation and the Lean Construction Institute” the design and financial advantages have motivated many firms to begin the transition between old methodologies and new ones. A number of organizations are forming alliances based on their use of IB models and other technologies. They are challenging the very culture of the industry by having owners indemnify team members with the expectation that any remaining reservations about the feasibility of the technology will be mitigated by this shift of responsibility and liability.
15
These are today's pioneers the rest will follow eventually Those who understand how to manage the implementation of this type of technology will have an advantage.
