What is a Drought? A long period of dry weather to cause a serious lack of water in soils, rivers, groundwater, and lakes that has an adverse effect on vegetation, animals, and people.

For Ventura Drought is: The sources of supply can not meet the demand, and additional water conservation measures are required by our customers to reduce demand.

So, What’s the Answer? Are We In a Drought now or Not? Based on water system in late 1980s: YES (first dry winter) Operating water system today: NO

Why Do We Have Water? Water comes from sources that are available during below average rainfall –Lake Casitas (87% Level) –Groundwater (Full) Use sources as availability changes Voluntary Water Conservation

We are Better Prepared Since the Last Drought! Because of investments in new facilities: Casitas Supply Reliability & Treatment Additional Wells (4 new wells) Treatment Capacity Water conservation

Planned Improvements: (for the next 6 years) Additional Well Redundancy –3 new Wells on Eastside –Ventura River (3 or 4) –Replace 2 wells due to age Saticoy Treatment Capacity Expansion Pipeline Interconnection Reliability –East to West Transmission –Oxnard Emergency Interconnection
