There is a bit of a rivalry going on between the members of the band, so I have to ask: What is your favorite instrument that is played in the song? There’s a piano, acoustic guitar, drums, synthesizer, and, of course, vocals. Isabel Mills's favorite part is the piano. Not to offend anyone, but I think it’s the most important section of the song. It goes especially well with the slow, sort of dragged-out tempo, the melancholy yet rebellious mood of the song and the fluctuating, but mostly dangerously-quiet volume. Radiohead Yes, we tried to incorporate the message of the song into the style in which we played our instruments. The song is really about the stress of living up to the world’s expectations. And the insanity of trying to be perfect. It talks about how the fictional Karma Police begin to arrest people who act differently or who do not blend into the crowd of “regular people”. Isabel Mills Oh, so that’s what the lyrics “Karma Police/Arrest this man/He talks in maths/He buzzes like a fridge/He’s like a detuned radio” and “This is what you get/When you mess with us/”! Radiohead Yup. Those first lyrics are about the Karma Police arresting an eccentric math whiz and the other group is basically the Karma Police warning against acting oddly. Thanks for responding!
