The Pathway to Success Introduction & Purpose Create a unique, distinct environment for first-year students at ISU; Improve persistence and retention rates of first-year students, serving to raise graduation rates; Bridge learning from the classroom to the living environment by providing meaningful opportunities for leadership and engagement with academic course concepts in co-curricular and residential settings; Upgrade and replace residence halls with modern, student focused facilities.

The Pathway to Success Methods Continue to redefine the role of RA and APA staff working in the residence halls; Explore the implementation of a nationally recognized housing assessment program; Hire an Associate Director to coordinate themed housing, develop programming and serve as liaison with faculty; Increase Area Director positions to 12 month, full-time positions; Form a campus Residential Life Advisory Board; Plan and host a Residential Village Summit to engage and inform faculty and staff partners.

The Pathway to Success Benchmarks Increase and enhance the role of APA; Increase the number of theme housing cohorts; Renovate and construct new residence halls; Increase theme housing faculty participating in out of classroom experiences (ie – faculty dining partner program); Increase/sustain Mapworks participation among residence hall students; Implement EBI-National Resident Assessment Survey.

The Pathway to Success Discussion Continue to use and analyze data from Mapworks; Distribute and analyze data from the EBI- National Resident Assessment survey; Begin collecting and analyzing data of Theme Housing participants; Continue to evaluate the Residential Life organizational structure and programming model in order best meet retention and student success goals.

The Pathway to Success Summary Continue renovations and building new residence halls; Begin to utilize survey and assessment data to guide future staffing and programmatic needs; Continue to encourage and promote representatives of existing housing themes to rethink their approach to co-curriculum within the residence halls and increase their collaboration with faculty and staff in other themes regarding programming and assessment.
